zimmer haben sie 'sea view', 'sea view XL, und 'beach front', von letzterem typ 6 stück.
wir haben uns für letzteren typ entschieden.

koh samui statt bangkok

auf anraten von hr. schneider von sunsiam tours, unserem reiseveranstalter vor ort, haben wir uns für koh samui statt phuket entschieden, das wetter soll um die jahreszeit dort viel besser sein, d.i. weniger regen.wir fliegen gleich nach unserer ankunft aus europa ab bangkok nach koh sanui - mit der bangkok airways. umsteigezeit ist fast 3 stunden, laut hr. schneider sollte das ausreichen.hotels gibt's dort wie sand am meer ;-), wir haben uns für das 'hansar' entschieden, ein ganz neues hotel am bo phut strand, an der nordseite der insel:

"Elephants, mahouts and staff of the elephant camps protest at City Hall on May 4 asking for government help to restore tourism to Thailand and aid for the elephant camps, many of which have been forced to lay off employees as expenses far outweigh income with the loss of tourists.

12 elephants and nearly 100 staff members and mahouts from Maetaman Elephant Camp, operators of other elephant camps in the Mae Taeng Valley, and Friends of Chiang Mai members staged a protest at Chiang Mai City Hall on May 4.

Maetaman Elephant Camp has been forced to shut down from lack of business during the recent crises. Mrs. Amphai Thapthong of the Maetaman Elephant Camp led the group in submitting a letter of complaint to Chiang Mai Governor Amornphan Nimanant. The letter, received by Deputy Governor Chumphorn Saengmanee, asked for help in sustaining the elephants and for government efforts to redouble in restoring the tourism sector in Thailand.

The letter also requested the government work harder to restore peace and normality in order help restore tourist confidence in Thailand.

Amphai said that the elephant camps operators suffered from the political turbulence that has seriously affect the tourism sector. “Many countries and their governments announced warnings to their citizens not to visit Thailand during the Red shirt protests in Bangkok,” she said.

“At present,” Mrs Amphai continued, “the elephant camp operators have to carry huge expenses. Each month; we have to pay out 2 million baht for the salary and elephant food expenses. We have been forced to close down the camp,” she concluded.

Anchalee Kalmapijit, Chairperson of the Hug Chang Club or Love Elephant Club added that the Maetaman Elephant camp still feeds and looks after the elephants but that some employees have had to be laid off to cut expenses. They hope that normality can be returned and tourists will come back to Thailand. “That would hopefully help us a lot,” she noted.

The group vowed to keep the elephants protesting at City Hall until the issues had been addressed."

als außenstehender ist es schwierig, sich ein bild über die tatsächliche lage zu machen.
das österreichische außenministerium warnt dzt. vor reisen nach bangkok und N und NO thailand:

Partielle Reisewarnung für Bangkok und die nord- sowie nordöstlichen Provinzen. Der internationale Flughafen Bangkok ist von dieser partiellen Reisewarnung ausgenommen. Hohes Sicherheitsrisiko für den Rest von Thailand!

Von nicht unbedingt notwendigen Reisen nach Thailand wird bis auf Weiteres dringend abgeraten.
Für Bangkok (ausgenommen internationaler Flughafen), sowie die Provinzen Nonthaburi, Ayutthaya, Pathumthane, Nakhonpathum , Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Ubolratchathane, Mahasarakam, Roi-et, Nongbua-Lamphu, Sakolnakorn, Karasin, Mukdahan, Udonthanee ,Nan (North), Lampang, Srisaket, Nakornratchasima (Korat), Chaiyaphum, Nakornsawan ,Khon Kaen, Chonburi (beinhaltet auch Pattaya), (Samutprakarn ) besteht eine Reisewarnung, da an diesen Orten der Ausnahmezustand ausgerufen wurde."


Vor ort sieht man die sachlage ganz anders.
hr. schneider , (im bild, links => quelle) unser lokaler reiseveranstalter (siamsun-tours) vor ort, schreibt uns u.a.:

"Fuer uns hier im Norden ist das unfassbar.
Hier ist noch kein einziger Schuss gefallen und es gab bloss am einen Tag ein kurzes Techtelmechtel zwischen Jugendbanden und der Polizei. Ein Lastwagen wurde angezuendet und ein paar alte Reifen verbrannt...das ist alles!
Man merkt hier nichts, aber gar nichts von dem was in Bangkok passierte......."

auch die österreichische presse, in dem fall diepresse.com schreibt u.a. ähnliches:

[...] in Chiang Mai habe es Ausschreitungen gegeben, die sich aber als vergleichsweise harmlos herausgestellt hätten.

Ansonsten bekomme man dort von den Protesten "eigentlich überhaupt nichts" mit. Gerade, weil der thailändische Ex-Premier Thaksin Shinawatra aus der Region stamme, sei das verwunderlich, meint Valla. Doch in Chiang Mai sehe man in der Regel keine Rothemden, "höchstens Autos, die mit roten Fähnchen ihre Solidarität demonstrieren." [...] "


wir üben uns in geduld, und schau'n jetzt einmal, wie die reisebüros hier in österreich reagieren, die ja bis ende mai thailand aus dem programm gestrichen haben.


in jedem fall, die presse scheint hier auch eine rolle, weltweit, zu spielen - welche ist uns aber nicht ganz klar.

Troops opened fire in a tense stand off with protesters in the capital on Friday, where the army vowed to clear an area after clashes on Thursday left one dead and a renegade general fighting for his life. One man died from a bullet wound to the chest.
A succession of gunshots that sent residents fleeing in panic were heard close to the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, on Rama IV Road, which is popular with tourists. Protesters set fire to an empty police bus and vandalised army vehicles and a fire truck with a water cannon.
Troops were seen firing into nearby Lumpini Park, close to the anti-government red shirts' sprawling encampment, which has been fortified with razor wire, truck tyres and sharpened bamboo poles.
It was not clear if the troops were firing live ammunition, but the army has warned it would use lethal force against "terrorist elements".
After troops fired tear gas at the protesters at Witthayu intersection, protesters responded by burning a police truck and tyres outside the night bazaar, causing thick, black smoke.
A line of about 100 soldiers carrying assault rifles was seen near the park, a reporter said. Three red shirts were seen being detained by the security forces.
Army spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said there were about 2,000 red shirt protesters in that area and they had 'intimidated authorities with weapons' so an order was given Friday morning to disperse them.
He said that security forces will not try to disperse red-shirts from their protest site on Friday.
"We haven't thought about dispersing them from the area today," Col Sansern told reporters.
He called on the protesters to leave the rally site and end the protest, saying that there is still time to return home."

May 3 (Bloomberg) -- Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva proposed holding an election on November 14 if all parties agree to a reconciliation process, a move aimed at ending eight weeks of deadly street protests that have paralyzed Bangkok.

“If we start from today and all parties are involved, I am confident that it won’t be long that we can reconcile and bring peace and normalcy back to our society,” he said today in a 30- minute nationally televised address. “And the government will be ready to hold an election and let the people decide.”

His five-step plan includes safeguarding the monarchy, addressing economic inequality, establishing an independent body to monitor media outlets, investigating political violence and assessing ways to change the constitution, he said. Abhisit had rejected an April 23 proposal by his opponents to dissolve parliament in 30 days.

The offer could ease political tensions after opponents of Abhisit’s government occupied streets and clashed with troops to pressure him into calling an election. The country’s worst political violence in 18 years, which claimed 27 lives last month, may reduce 2010 economic growth by two percentage points, Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij said April 30.

“We can’t accept or reject this yet,” Jatuporn Prompan, a leader of the protesters said in comments broadcast on Thai PBS television network. “It’s just a proposal.” "

und was wenn bangkok nicht geht?

alternativ haben wir einen badeaufenthalt im auge. phuket hat uns herr schneider von siamsun nicht empfohlen, wegen regenzeit, koh samui sollte besser sein.
flüge dorthin gibts jede menge, brauchen also nicht nach bangkok rein, sondern nur am flughafen umsteigen. hotels sollten auch das ein oder andere nette zu buchen sein - wir warten einmal ab.

herr schneider von siamsuntours hat uns auf anfrage seine meinung kundgetan:

"Bis Juli geht ja noch soviel Wasser die Donau runter...
Bei uns [nord-thailand] laeuft alles normal und man merkt von allem GAR nichts. Wir finden die Reisewarnungen z. T. ein Hhohn. Ja, fuer Bangkok ist das ja sicher auch angebracht.....aber wieso da jetzt auch Nordthailand reingezogen wird, ist uns hier allen ein Raetsel. Dies ist der Standpunkt der Dinge wie sie bis heute stehen, mehr kann ich nicht sagen...."

wir sind nur 3 tage in bangkok, die könnten wir aber auch gleich vom flughafen weiterfliegend an der küste verbringen, im notfall, wir warten ab.

resumee: wir üben uns in geduld, es ist ja noch lange bis in den juli hinein.
